Fire Protection

Richmond Township Fire Protection/Rescue

The Department started in February 1926 as a volunteer fire department.  In 1997 a new fire station was built at its current location.  Today, the Department is officially classified as a combination department of career, paid-on-premise and paid-on-call members.  The fire station is staffed 24/7 with Illinois licensed Firefighter II/Paramedics and houses two fire engines, one 110 foot ladder truck that serves double duty as a rescue squad, one tanker truck, one grass truck, two advanced life-support ambulances, and two basic life-support respnse vehicles.

The department is comprised of 43 members who respond to 500-plus emergency Fire/EMS calls per year.  Richmond Fire is dedicated to the task of providing the highest level of emergency response service for its district residents.

The District also has an active Fire Prevention Bureau.  The Bureau actively conducts annual business inspections, provides for plan reviews for new construction and is very active in public education, using Fire Prevention Week as a focal point for educating the children of our community in fire prevention.

The Richmond Firefighter's Association, a separate organization, is comprised of fire department members.  The association raises money through an annual raffle to purchase equipment and other items which are then donated back to the District.

Spring Grove Fire Protection District

The Spring Grove Fire Department was formed in 1925 and became a Fire Protection District in 1940.  The Rescue Squad was added in 1981 when the District built and moved into the current fire station on Richardson Road.  In 2002, the District added additional apparatus bay space and sleeping quarters.

The centrally located fire station is staffed 24/7 with crosstrained Firefighter paramedics and Firefigher EMT-Bs.  In addition to the in-station staff, Paid-on-Call members provide additional response.  The station houses the District's two engines, tankers, ambulances, and other equipment.

There is an active Fire Prevention Bureau.  Monitored fire detection/alarm systems are required in all new, renovated, and newly occupied businesses.  The Bureau inspects businesses and industry annually and completes or updates the pre-incident on a semi-annual basis.  Public education, including car seat checks, neighborhood activities, and the annual Fire Prevention Week event happen throughout the year.

The Spring Grove Firefighter's Association holds their annual Steak Fry the 2nd Saturday of August.  Funds raised have built the smoke house, purchased a Polaris rescue ATV, contributed to the purchase of 12-lead EKG monitor/defibrillators, provided Breakfast with the Chief to the schools, and annually provides a scholarship to a graduating senior at Richmond Burton High School.
