State Line Dance The name of the group is derived from the fact that there is basically very little dancing offered between New Berlin / Waukesha WI to the north and the O’Hare airport area to the south. At 7000 sq. ft. - the facility, located just 4 miles north of the WI / IL border, is literally the oldest and largest ballroom in the States of Wisconsin and Illinois. It was built in the 1920s and was then known as the Twin Lakes ( the WI town in which it is located ) Ballroom. Most people remember it as The Wonder Bar. All of the big bands played there – Glen Miller, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Gene Krupa, Bennie Goodman. Dorothy Lamore to name a few. Lawrence Welk was the resident band leader for a period of time and developed his "champagne style" of music there. He was married and spent his honeymoon night there. It was frequented by many of the wealthy big Chicago names – as well as Al Capone and his buddies. So, the plan is to bring dancing back. All dancing venues will be offered, from Swing and Ballroom to Latin and Disco. Instruction for various dance forms will be offered at all dances. We welcome members from any and all dance clubs and Meet-Up groups, as well as the general public. Special groups can also be accommodated. Beginners, singles & couples welcome!
