Nippersink Public Library District

Nippersink Public Library District on Hill Road opened on October 22, 1990, moving from Memorial Hall in Richmond which had been its home for 18 years. This 9,000 sq. ft. Prairie-style building grew to 18,000 sq. ft. when the second floor addition was built in 1996.  The Library is tax-supported and serves approximately 11,925 people in Richmond and Burton Townships. It is a member of the Prairie Area Library System (PALS).

Library Director Cynthia Cole heads a staff of three full-time and eight part-time workers who tend to the library's collection of books, newspaper and magazine titles, videos and DVDs, music CDs, books on tape/CD, and Spanish language/bilingual materials.

The library provides Reference and Interlibrary Loan Service and can obtain practically any book, video, or sound recording.  Access to OCLC allows staff to search for materials throughout Illinois and the United States.  The library's network offers internet access, a CD-ROM encyclopedia, and access to a variety of resources including the library's online catalog and several reference databases.

The Friends of Nippersink Library, a non-profit organization that provides support for the library through membership dues, the annual used book sale, and other activities.  The group has 40 members and meets as needed.

A number of organizations meet regularly at the library including Memory Makers, a group of storytelling seniors, who meet monthly.  Story hour for preschoolers are held weekly.   Other adult and children's library programs are scheduled throughout the year.

A 99 person capacity meeting room, with kitchen facilities, is used by service and civic groups, scouts, businesses, and others.  Smaller meeting rooms are also available.
